Uses: Doxycycline is an antibiotic prescribed to treat a variety of infections. It is most commonly used to treat tick-borne diseases, such as Lyme and Anaplasma, upper respiratory infections, and auto-immune diseases. This medication comes in an oral tablet form.
For: Dogs and cats. Liquid formulations needed for cats.

Precautions: The most commonly reported symptoms have included nausea and diarrhea, which are minor. Do not give Doxycycline to pregnant or nursing pets. Do not give multivitamins, calcium supplements, antacids, or laxatives within 2 hours before or after giving this medication, as these products can reduce the effectiveness of Doxycycline. Doxycycline may make a pet’s skin more sensitive to sunlight and sunburn may occur. Throw away any unused medication when it expires or when it is no longer needed.
